Campaign 2016: 10 cities with mayoral runoff elections

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A brief breakdown of some of the races taking place on October 4th, 2016.

Back in August, 5 people were running for mayor in Anniston. We’re down to two choices in the October 4th runoff – Jack Draper and Robert Folsom. One of these two will replace Vaughn Stewart, who announced he wouldn’t run for reelection earlier in the year.

Tony Picklesimer and Dale Neuendorf are on the ballot for Chelsea. The winner in Tuesday’s runoff will be the city’s second mayor in it’s history. Earl Nivens, the first mayor in Chelsea, is stepping down after 5 consecutive terms.

Ken Wesson and Pete Storey are running for the next mayor of Childersburg, replacing James Payne.

Edward E. May and Johnnie Wyatt are up for the office last occupied by Kenneth Coachman. For more on the Fairfield mayoral race, and the saga surrounded the city, click here.

In August it was tight race between Clark “Julio” Davis and Mary Sue Morgan for mayor. Davis had 49% of the vote, while Morgan had 48%. Now it’s just these two on the ballot, where a handful of votes could mean the difference of who wins and who doesn’t.

Steve Ware and, the current Hueytown Mayor, Delor Baumann were separated by only 58 votes in August.

Greg Tinker and David O’Mary are up for the seat held by Sonny Posey. Posey, who was Jasper’s Mayor for the last 3 terms. He announced earlier this year he would not seek reelection.

What was 6 candidates in August is now down to 2. Current Mayor, Bobby Herndon is up against Donna Aaron.

There is guaranteed to be a new mayor in Sylacauga. James Heigl and Bryan Taunton are running for the position. Current Mayor, Doug Humphree, came in 4th back in August.

Another city that will have a guaranteed new mayor is Trussvile. Anthony Montalto and Buddy Choat are running for the office that was held by Eugene Melton since 1996.

We’ll have full election results online as they come in Tuesday evening.
