Lane closures for up to eight weeks

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) —

Multiple main highways and interstates will be receiving guardrail repairs. The work began Sunday October 2nd, and according to Alabama Department of Transportation, the work may last for the next eight weeks. During this time, expect construction workers on site and lane closures in the areas listed below.

 

  • AL 4 and AL 5 (US 78) – on the outside shoulders and median in the northbound/eastbound and southbound/westbound directions from the St. Clair County Line (MP 116.7) in Leeds to the Walker County line (MP 154.7) in Sumiton. This work may require closure of the outside (right) and the inside (left) lanes at various times and locations in the area where guardrail repairs are being made.
  • AL 25 – on the outside shoulders and median in the northbound and southbound directions from the Shelby County line (MP 167.2) in Leeds to the AL 4 (US 78) interchange (MP 169.3) in Leeds. This work may require closure of the outside (right) lane at various times and locations in the area where guardrail repairs are being made.
  • AL 38 (US 280) – on the outside shoulders and median in the eastbound and westbound directions from the AL 3 (US 31) Interchange (MP 0.0) in Homewood to the Shelby County Line (MP 5.9) in Birmingham. This work may require closure of the outside (right) and the inside (left) lanes at various times and locations in the area where guardrail repairs are being made.
  • AL 75 – on the outside shoulders and median in the northbound and southbound directions from the I-59 interchange (MP 0.0) in Roebuck to the Blount County Line (MP 13.5) in Center Point. This work may require closure of the outside (right) lane at various times and locations in the area where guardrail repairs are being made.
  • AL 79 – on the outside shoulders and median in the northbound and southbound directions from the I-59 Interchange (MP 0.0) in Roebuck to the Blount County line (MP 19.6). This work may require closure of the outside (right) lane at various times and locations in the area where guardrail repairs are being made.
  • AL 119 – on the outside shoulders in the northbound and southbound directions from the Shelby County line (MP 31.8) near Lake Purdy to the AL 4 (US 78) interchange (MP 39.6) in Leeds. This work may require closure of the outside (right) lane at various times and locations in the area where guardrail repairs are being made.
  • AL 269 – on the outside shoulders and median in the northbound and southbound directions from the I-59 interchange (MP 0.0) in Roebuck to the Walker County Line (MP 21.7) in Praco. This work may require closure of the outside (right) lane at various times and locations in the area where guardrail repairs are being made.
  • I-459 – on the outside shoulders and median in the northbound and southbound directions from the I-59 interchange (MP 0.0) in Bessemer to the I-59 interchange (MP 33.3) in Trussville. This work may require closure of the outside (right) and the inside (left) lanes at various times and locations in the area where guardrail repairs are being made.
  • I-20 – on the outside shoulders and median in the eastbound and westbound directions from the I-59 interchange (MP 130.0) in Birmingham to the St. Clair County line (MP 142.9) in Leeds. This work may require closure of the outside (right) and the inside (left) lanes at various times and locations in the area where guardrail repairs are being made.
  • I-22 – on the outside shoulders and median in the westbound and eastbound directions from the I-65 interchange (Exit 94) in Birmingham to the Walker County line (MP 78.6) in Leeds. This work may require closure of the outside (right) and the inside (left) lanes at various times and locations in the area where guardrail repairs are being made.

Upon completion of all guardrail repairs on the outside (right) shoulders, the repairs will move to the inside (left) median shoulders in both the northbound/eastbound and southbound/westbound directions, which will require the inside (left) travel lane and shoulder to be closed in areas where the guardrail repairs are being made.

This work may require intermittent lane closures for up to eight weeks.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Maintenance operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
