NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — We are kicking off the first full week of October, which means the seasons and store inventory are changing! You’ve probably noticed all the Fall décor out and Halloween costumes in the stores. You already know you’re going to pay top dollar for a lot of these items, but with kids, what can you do? Well, it’s why it’s so important to save on other items.
Summer is officially over and the countdown to Halloween is on. While you choose the perfect costume retailers are shifting around inventory for the cooler months. If you’re thinking about a new set of wheels for winter, you can probably negotiate for a lower price on 2016 vehicles right now.
“Car dealers are trying to get rid of their 2016 inventory. So you can kind of play this game where as we go through the month and into November, there are fewer 2016 models but they do get cheaper and cheaper,” said Patrick Gourley, University of New Haven assistant professor of economics.
Another good buy this month: any outdoor summer accessories you want for next year. Inventory is getting low but what you do find is at the lowest price it’ll be.
Here’s another great buy that could benefit you in the colder months.
“Jeans is actually a big one. Jeans are actually cheapest in October than any other month of the year as companies are transitioning to their winter line,” Gouley added.
A few things to stay away from: electronics will be top dollar. They know you need it if you’re getting it now rather than just waiting for black Friday. Don’t expect the price to budge for a little while. Wait a bit longer before stocking up on winter apparel too. While you’re buying costumes and candy, keep in mind, stores everywhere sell this stuff. So if you’re looking for a good deal, keep a close eye on those flyers. Stores will be fighting for you to come buy your candy from them this year, they’ll be rolling out buy one get one deals or other incentives. It’s also a good idea to see who will price match.
