GARDENDALE, Ala. (WIAT) — Imagine being stuck in your neighborhood for up to six hours at a time with no way to get in or out. That’s what some people say is happening because of stopped trains on railroad tracks in Gardendale.
It’s a problem we see all over our area, but in the New Castle Community off McCormack Drive, Anita Glasscock says it’s gotten so bad in the past few years that they are looking to move. She says there is only one way in and out of the neighborhood. There was one time firefighters couldn’t get to a house fire because of the stopped train.
“What if something major happened on this street and we couldn’t get someone in here? What is CSX going to do? Yeah, they will fork out a little bit of money and say yeah we will make the problem go away, but it’s not ever going to go away until CSX actually has to deal with us one on one and understand what we got through on a daily basis,” Glasscock said.
Anita says they’ve taken their concerns to the city and had a meeting with a representative from CSX.
