HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — PT Orthodontics has served the Birmingham area for 25 years. That means they have transformed thousands of smiles throughout Alabama, and there is no slowing down in their future. Dr. John Phillips says he is seeing more and more parents deciding to get orthodontic work.
“Historically, you think braces are for kids. But the fact is, 25 to 30 percent of our patients are adults. And you’re never too old to have straight teeth. Your teeth don’t know how old they are. We’ll have 60, 70, 80-year-olds and they’re amazed that they can have a beautiful smile and straight teeth,” Phillips said.
The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children start seeing an orthodontist at age seven for screening.
“That does not mean every seven-year-old needs braces. But if you see a severe overbite, an open bite, a seven or eight-year-old that’s sucking their thumb… those are things that need to be addressed at a young age. By making it affordable for people, so many times the mother will say, ‘you know what, I had braces as a child I didn’t wear my retainers, things have moved. I need a little touch-up! And we’ll put the parent back in braces,” said Phillips. “I always say the pecking order of orthodontics is children have braces first, then the moms, and then the mommas start looking at the daddy’s and say, ‘those teeth are kind of crooked.’ And then the daddy’s come in.”
PT Orthodontics makes payment easy and can work with any budget. Because braces are expensive, Phillips says they want to make it affordable for people to get the smile for their children and themselves that they would like to have. The practice offers multiple payment plans with low monthly payments.
“We even have a program where parents can adjust the payment schedule to be what fits in their budget. And that gives the power of paying for braces to the parents, which is a great tool. So that it’s not something that’s so expensive that they just can’t do it,” Phillips said.
People are also coming to PR Orthodontics for help managing their sleep apnea – a serious medical condition.
“Oxygen is not optional! You have to have it. So many people have sleep apnea and some techniques ar kind of band-aid fixes. What we offer in conjunction with oral-maxillofacial surgeons is a way to truly correct and eliminate sleep apnea by moving the upper and lower jaws forward. Now that involves braces and surgery, but it’s a great tool that we have to help patients who suffer from sleep apnea,” Phillips said.
With many life-changing procedures for the whole family and 10 locations across central Alabama, PT Orthodontics continues to grow in popularity rapidly. In fact, the practice was voted as “Bham’s Favorite Orthodontist” for the past four years in a row.
