Gov. Bentley, state representatives withdraw support of Donald Trump

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) –  Governor Robert Bentley says he will no longer vote for Donald Trump following the GOP presidential nominee’s comments about women. U.S. Representatives Martha Roby, Bradley Byrne, and Gary Palmer are also blasting Trump for his comments.

Bentley, Roby, and Byrne are calling fro Trump to step aside. Trump’s sexually-charged remarks were caught on a recording in 2005 and involve him talking about him being able to grope women because of his celebrity status.

Roby calls Trump’s behavior “unacceptable” and says the best thing for the country and the GOP is for him to let someone else lead the ticket. Byrne echoed Roby’s sentiments, saying Trump is not fit to be President.

Palmer’s statement says Trump was right to apologize but doesn’t believe Trump was truly asking for forgiveness in his videotaped apology. Palmer says Trump should “give deep and serious consideration to what he should do in regard to what is best for our country.”
