BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police are investigating the homicide of a military veteran that occured on Saturday around 11:04 p.m, according to a release from BPD.
Officers from the West Precinct responded to the 1000 block of 41st Street Ensley on Saturday to find the victim laying on the ground near his driveway suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the body.
The victim, identified as Calvin Gunn, 64, of Birmingham, was transported to UAB Hospital where later died from his injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was returning home with his wife when he was approached by an unknown black male, according to the release. The department believes that the murder was an attempted robbery that lead to a shooting, before the suspect fled on foot with two other males.
