‘Focus on Recovery’ celebrates 15 years of helping women

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Focus on Recovery is celebrating 15 years of helping women who struggle with alcohol and drug abuse. The program is a sober living facility that women come to after they complete a treatment program.

Focus helps women get back into society. It applies a 12 step program into their lives as they transition into sober living.

LaTonya Hannah has been sober for eight years. She now works with Focus and shares her journey to recovery.

“With actual long term sobriety, I tried to stop millions of times, too many times to even count but in 2008,” Hannah said. “I just finally reached my bottom and it was because I applied some spiritual principles to my life and I took some suggestions.”

The organization has served close to 850 girls since opening in 2001. To mark the anniversary, there is a Spirit of Recovery Celebration Luncheon on Thursday.

Actor Michael O’Neill is the keynote speaker and Art Franklin will emcee the event.

The luncheon is at The Club at 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning. To purchase a ticket, call 205-822-7300.
