VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (WIAT) — Neighbors in Vestavia Hills are trying to figure out who would steal their Halloween decorations and why.
Neighbors tells CBS42 they woke up Thursday morning to find their Halloween inflatables had been stolen.
Extension cords were left behind and shock for a lot of people in the Liberty Park community.
One man, Eric Fessler, had two inflatables stolen from his yard. He says the neighborhood is really big on decorating for Halloween because there are so many kids in the area.
“It absolutely stinks because especially this little neighborhood, here in the development, almost every home here has got a child that’s in elementary school, I don’t think it’s going to impact the spirit of Halloween for us,” said Fessler.
Fessler spent about $80 on a medium-sized pumpkin inflatable and about $180 for a large dragon inflatable.
Many of the neighbors say it’s not about the money lost, it’s about the devastation on the faces of the kids looking forward to seeing the decorations everyday.
“It’s incredibly disappointing, the look of bewilderment on my son’s face, you’re in shock you don’t really know what to say when something like this happens,” Fessler said.
Fessler filed a police report, other neighbors that spoke to CBS42 planned to do the same thing.
Fessler doesn’t think the thefts will kill the Halloween spirit in the neighborhood and doesn’t think it’ll impact Christmas decorations.
Vestavia Hills police has increased patrol in the area, focusing specifically on the time period between 10 p.m.- 6 a.m.
