SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A joint task force made up of police from several cities in the metro area raided a dozen businesses to make arrests in a reported retail theft scheme.
Officers from Mountain Brook, Gardendale, Vestavia Hills and Birmingham participated in the operation, which brought several people in on the charges.
Vestavia Hills Police Captain Kevin York tells CBS42 News that items including fitbits, ipads and other tech products were taken from local retail stores.
The stolen goods were then sold to several pawn shops and check cashing businesses owned by Shelby County resident Steve Scott.
Investigators have stated that employees receiving the items knew they were stolen.
