Two students shot near Miles College dorm during robbery

FAIRFIELD, Ala. (WIAT) — Two Miles College students are recovering after being shot in a parking lot behind a student dorm.

Fairfield police chief Nick Dyer says the students were shot while they were being robbed in the parking lot, which is technically off campus on Ave E.

Both students are in the band, the college says. Dyer says one student is still in the hospital. The injuries are reportedly not life threatening.

There is a mandatory curfew in place at the school for the time being. Security has also been increased on campus.

Director of College Relations Alicia Williams released the following statement regarding the shooting of the students:

Miles College Officers responded to a call of 2 students that had run back onto campus after being shot in a parking lot on 58th Street Fairfield off campus near the back of the college at approximately 9:59 p.m last night.  The victims were transported to the hospital and Miles Police secured the scene for Fairfield Police until they arrived. Fairfield Police is investigating the incident.
