TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – It is National School Bus Safety Week, and Tuscaloosa City School leaders are addressing the issue of bullying.
The theme this week is “Stop Bullying on the Bus.” Transportation director Cathy Staggs says almost every day she gets phone calls from parents who complain that their children are being bullied by other students on school buses.
“Well bullying is a huge topic across the country and school districts everywhere are doing their best to stop that from happening. Bullying damages students emotionally and sometimes it turns into physical aggression. And we are determined to stop that,” Staggs said.
The transportation director says another concern being addressed is illegal passing. Staggs says too many cars are passing school buses even when the stop arms are out and red light is flashing. She is asking motorists to use more caution.
