Firefighters fight fires in Central Alabama

WALKER COUNTY, ALA (WIAT)- Firefighters worked wildfires in the Birmingham area and in Walker county Saturday. Saturday afternoon a fire broke out the 89-hundred block of Flat Top Road in Walker County. Officials say that eight fire departments from Walker and Jefferson County responding to the fire, as well as the Alabama Forestry Commission. Officials say that more than 40 acres burned.

There was another was off Minor Parkway in the back of the George Washington Carver Memorial. Minor Heights Fire District and Birmingham fire responded to the fire that started around 3:15p.m. Around four acres burned. The number of fires have crews working around the clock.

“It’s really aggravating because this is our third fire in four days. We had one recently   and it was people burning outside and the message has been put out there that we are in stage three drought no burning. Everyday there is fires and people are not listening to the message,” said Minor Heights Fire district Chief Joe McGough

The cause of the two fires are under investigation.
