Costume, karaoke extravaganza ‘Scary-Oke’ to benefit Virginia Samford Theatre

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Scary-Oke is a costume and karaoke extravaganza that will take place on Saturday night at Iron City. This event benefits the Virginia Samford Theatre, which is Birmingham’s oldest performing arts theatre.

CBS42 talked with the organizers of this new event and they say it offers something for everyone.

“It’s a new Halloween event that promises to be great fun,” Cathy Gilmore said. “You can dress up, come to Iron City, get on the stage and sing your favorite karaoke song and win some prizes.”

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Organizers also say there will also be a lip synch battle going on that night.

Scheduled to participate include Birmingham City Councilor Valerie Abbott and Don Lupo from the mayor’s office.

In order to compete, you need to buy tickets online at then arrive early at Iron City to sign up. There will be a desk where people can sign up and choose which song they want to sing. To purchase tickets, click here.

There will be lots of prizes, including free tickets to the Virginia Samford Theatre, trophies and one talented and very lucky winner will receive two tickets to see Hamilton in Chicago!
