ROANOKE, Va. (WIAT) — Two people are dead after a shooting Tuesday morning in Virginia. Three others are still in the hospital, recovering from gunshot wounds.
Police say shots were fired around 6 a.m. at Freight Car America in Roanoke.
The shooter is believed to be one of the two dead. Police believe the gunman worked at the company.
“We do believe the shooter was an employee or an ex-employee,” Chief Tom Jones of the Roanoke City Police said. “We have not been able to substantiate that here also at this time. We’re working in many different directions to get the information that we need to bring this particular case to resolution.”
Police say one witness hid in a bathroom during the shooting.
Freight Car America and Norfolk Southern were evacuated. A nearby high school wass closed for the day.
