20 displaced due to Leeds apartment fire

LEEDS, Ala. (WIAT) — A fire broke out at the Cedar Grove Apartments Tuesday night. Fire officials say eight units were damaged. Seven of those units were occupied. Twenty people have been displaced. TavarisThreatt who lives in a nearby unit says he saw two people jump from the second floor.

“They have a dog and they threw the dog out the window first, and after that the wife jumped out the window.”

Threatt says the husband was hesitant to jump.

“Everybody was like you are going to have to jump out the window you are not going to make it. I guess he thought about it and jumped out the window,” said Threatt.

Paramedics arrived shortly afterward. Threatt says they are expected to be ok.

In a lower unit there was more action.

“She had to get her and her grandbabies out, she couldn’t come out her door so she had to get out her through the windows too,” said Threatt.

Investigators with K-9’s were back at the scene Wednesday investigating. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
