HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — People in Hoover are getting their chance to add their two cents to what the name of the new $80 million sports complex should be.
There has been some push back in the community before construction even started on the new sports complex. Many in the community felt the city moved forward with this plan without a lot of taxpayer input. Supporters of the plan say the complex will be a major boast for the area’s economy.
Now, there is controversy over the name. A Florida-based management firm recommended naming it the Alabama Sports and Events Center with the nickname “The Bam.” That did not go over well in the community. A common thread in the distaste was that the community did not have any input in the process. The city council swiftly made a move to enlist the help of a community-based naming committee.
They sifted through name suggestions and came up with a finalist list. Hoover residents can vote on what name they want through Sunday, Oct. 30th. Click here to vote.
