BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department is set to receive 300 new body cameras. The city is granting $600,000 for the department to equip officers with the cameras.
Right now, the department has about 800 men and women on the force using more than 300 body cameras. The department says the additional cameras will be a great tool to allow day shift officers and special units to be equipped.
The department also says the increase in body cameras allows them to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to transparency and better training.
