SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — The Calera Dive Team, made up of firefighters and police officers, recovered multiple guns in Shelby County water. Handguns, shotguns, rifles, both new and old, were all found in waterways.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit says they got a tip about a gun being tossed into water in the county. That’s what started the search
They can’t say where the guns were exactly found because they don’t want to clue in the people who did this on whether or not they are likely to be caught.
“Because of the large number located and recovered, we may be able to solve several crimes. And perhaps some not so cold cases. So any tip like this that leads to positive results is always beneficial,” Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Strayer said.
Cold case deputies say this is a huge lead that could potentially mean big breaks in cases. The guns are now being examined by forensics.
