Opelika man arrested for allegedly hiding cameras in public restrooms

LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Cameras were found hidden in plastic coat racks attached to walls in several Lee County public restrooms. An Opelika man is behind bars for the crime on Friday morning.

Prosecutors are charging Kirston Dowdell with Aggravated Criminal Surveillance and Production of Pornography with Minors.

Investigators say the cameras were found in men’s restrooms at Opelika High School’s football stadium and at Shug Jordan Soccer Field in Auburn. A third location has yet to be determined, but is believed to also be a men’s restroom.

The FBI says less than two dozen child victims were discovered. Police are working to identify and locate them.
