Police chase involving three departments ends with gunshots in front of Bessemer Fire Station

BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) — Homewood and Vestavia Police departments chased robbery suspects to a fire station on the 4600 block of Bessemer Super Highway, according to Lieutenant Edwards with BPD.

Vestavia Hills Police received a call around 7:51 p.m. of a robbery in progress at the Red Roof Inn, according to Captain York of the Vestavia Hills Police Department.

Officers responded and were notified that the suspects were two black males in a green Chevy Tahoe, according to reports. The suspects then got on to I-65 Northbound, and officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop when the suspect reportedly sped off.

The chase went through Homewood, Birmingham, Midfield, and ended in Bessemer on the Bessemer Super Highway and Woodward Ave. At that point, two black males and one female were taken into custody.

Captain York told CBS42 News that there was a report of shots fired at police, but at this time they are unable to determine if the officer returned fire.
