ALABASTER, Ala. (WIAT) – Police in Alabaster are investigating their first homicide in six years.
Chief Curtis Rigney with the Alabaster Police Department says a clerk was killed during a robbery at the Kirkland Chevron on 1st Street North sometime between 9 a.m. when the store opened and 11:15 a.m. He said a citizen came into the store around 11:15 a.m. and found the clerk unresponsive, then called police.
“We’re not used to this,” said Rigney. “It’s a brutal crime. We feel awful for the family and for their loss and we’re going to work diligently and we will not stop looking until we find the person or persons responsible for this horrific crime.”
Police said the clerk had worked at the store for about a year.
Investigators have collected evidence at the scene, but they’re also asking for the public’s help.
“Anybody that may have seen anything in this area Sunday morning between 8:00 and 11:15 — anything suspicious, vehicles or anybody here — we’re asking that they contact the Alabaster Police Department,” said Rigney.
