Drug warrant roundup targets ‘heavy hitters’ in Etowah County heroin market

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Law enforcement agencies in Etowah County conducting “Operation Day Break “on Tuesday.

With officers heavily armed, air support and canines, 159 search warrants were executed at homes throughout Etowah County related to crimes involving drugs.

“We have a lot of heroin buys, several trafficking of heroin–we have had a lot of overdoses over the last year, so a lot of the heavy hitters we are going to try to get off the street today,” said Etowah County Unit Commander Randall Johnson.

Other than local agencies, the FBI, ATF, and US Marshals assisted in Tuesday’s roundup.
