MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. (WIAT) — A 47-year-old Mountain Brook woman is behind bars, accused of stabbing her elderly parents who are both in the 80s Sunday at their home.
Mountain Brook police Angela Hontzas has been charged with two counts of attempted murder. Officials say they arrived on the scene in the 3400 block of Oak Canyon Drive after responding to an open 9-1-1 call to find the suspect’s mother was in the front yard suffering from stab wounds. The suspect’s father came out of the house, also suffering from stab wounds, and officers treated them before they were taken to UAB Hospital for surgery.
According to the victims’ son Pete, they are Theo and Elizabeth Hontzas. Pete tells us his dad Theo is from Greece, and owns Smokehouse Steak and Seafood Restaurant, where Pete has worked with him since high school.
Pete tells us his parents are recovering and both are walking and talking.
Police say the suspect stayed inside the house and later surrendered to officers. She was taken to to Grandview Medical Center for treatment, then transported to the Mountain Brook City Jail. She is currently in the Jefferson County Jail, held on bond of $250,000 for both counts of attempted murder.
