TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Police say a man has been taken into custody after barricading himself inside an apartment with a woman and infant inside.
Tuscaloosa police say they responded to a call of a person armed with a shotgun trying to enter a home around 12:30 a.m., then firing the shotgun into the air as he fled. When officers got there, they saw the suspect go into an apartment across the street, and he refused to open the door.
Officers secured the apartment and got a search warrant. Just after 4 a.m., officers entered the apartment and took the suspect into custody. Officers found a woman and infant safe inside, and a shotgun that had been reported stolen.
33-year-old Jim McCoy of Tuscaloosa was arrested on charges of Receiving Stolen Property 4th Degree, and Unlawful Possession of a Short Barreled Shotgun and held in Tuscaloosa County Jail with a total bond of $21,000.00; with pending warrants for Discharging a Firearm in the City Limits and Menacing with a $500.00 bond each.
