BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Don’t feel like getting the kitchen dirty this Thanksgiving?
Fear not, because upscale retailer Neiman Marcus is offering an exclusive full Holiday dinner, from the turkey to the stuffing to the pecan bread pudding, prepared by their very own chef Kevin Garvin.
For only $495, plus $32 shipping, you and seven others can feast on a 12 pound roast turkey, gravy, sausage stuffing, wild rice salad, farro pilaf, monkey bread with strawberry butter, and pecan bread pudding with whiskey sauce. Plus, you apparently qualify for a gift with the purchase.
All of which is a fairly typical Thanksgiving spread, although I have to admit, I’m a little puzzled by the monkey bread with strawberry butter. Personally, my experience with monkey bread comes from the one time my mom and I made it with a recipe I got in kindergarten, but I guess the strawberry butter really kicks it up a notch?
And if turkey isn’t your thing, they also have a whole hickory-smoked spiral sliced ham meal, retail price $420, but currently 25 percent off for $315 (plus shipping).
According to their website, the dinner is shipped directly to you from the the vendors, and can’t be delivered on Saturday, Sunday, Monday or holidays to ensure freshness.
I don’t know about you, but now I’m curious as to how much your average holiday meal for eight costs. My family is hosting a small get together at my parents house for the first time this Thanksgiving instead of going to my grandma’s in Mississippi, and we had a little tiff two weekends ago while planning who would cook what, and who would buy what. I signed up to buy most of my items, but I’m glad my sister is insisting on the main elements being home-cooked.
So, what about your family? Are you cooking yourself, planning to buy some things or all of the things, or are you letting the matriarch of the family take care of most of it and bringing a side? Above all, how much does your Thanksgiving typically cost?
