One Class at a Time: Dora High School

DORA, Ala. (WIAT) – The One Class at a Time crew surprised Dora’s Band Director this week with a $1,000 check! Jeremy McFall says he was skeptical of his chances of winning.

“A friend of mine up the road in Carbon Hill, Lindsey Underwood, had applied and I saw all the video and stuff that goes with it! My wife, who really pushed me, said ‘you really need to apply for this.’”

And that is exactly what McFall did! He went to this page and filled out the application. Now McFall has the money he needs for his growing band program. He is planning to purchase music stands.

“In some cases, I’ve got middle school kids who are propping music up on the chairs because we only have eight or nine music stands that do a decent job holding their music up. And I’ve got forty kids in that room,” McFall said. “This money is going to go a long way to helping teach these kids, and help get these kids to where they can learn how to read music, and play, and have a great time with band! Hopefully, this will set a career that goes way into their life. Because you don’t see Bret Favre playing football anymore, but people can play music basically up to the very end.”
