GARDENDALE, Ala. (WIAT) — A group of parents in Gardendale are fed up with an issue with trains in their neighborhood. They say trains stop on the tracks for up to hours at a time. When they stop in the morning, it will often block student’s ability to get to their school bus.
Neighbors off McCormack Drive in the New Castle Community say kids are having to weave through the stopped cars, in some cases, to make it to the school bus in time. CBS42 News experienced the problem first hand when our crew was stuck there for 40 mins waiting for a stopped train to move around 7 a.m.
There is only one way in and out of the neighborhood. Neighbors say they have taken their concerns to the city and had a meeting with a CSX representative. Neighbors also say the problem will get better for a little bit and then become an issue again.
