Veterans weigh in on important issues as election day approaches

CALHOUN COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Veterans weighed in on what issues are important to them as they head to vote for the presidential election Tuesday.

Gerald Harmon, a Vietnam veteram, said border security is critical to him.

“We need to protect our borders we need to know who is coming into our country and what’s going in it and what’s coming out of it,” said Harmon.

Cheryl Swain is a retired navy chief.

“I hope that whoever gets elected is fair all the way around when it comes to veterans policies and different things the veterans need today,” said Swain.

Veterans CBS 42 News spoke with did not want say which side they are supporting, but did say this.

“Whoever gets chosen, we have to be behind him or her–whoever it is,” said veteran Hector Lopez.
