More than half of Americans say the election is a source of stress

Richmond, Va. (WRIC) — If this year’s election is making you feel stressed and anxious, you’re certainly not alone.

According to the American Psychological Association, more than half of republicans and democrats say the 2016 presidential election is a source of stress.

To reduce any election anxiety, read enough to stay informed on the race and results, but don’t binge on political news. Set aside time for activities that recharge you, and stick to healthy habits. Having respectful discussions about politics can be good, but avoid talking about the election if it will likely lead to an argument. If it does, know when to stop yourself.

Stress and anxiety are not productive, but taking the proactive step of voting is, and the APA says it can help Americans cope with uncertainty.
