MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — For the first time in five years, the Alabama Cruise Terminal in Mobile is home to a cruise ship.
Wednesday morning around 5:30, the Carnival Fantasy made its long-awaited arrival into the Port City under a dark, pre-dawn sky. The Fantasy staff is now busy making preparations for its inaugural voyage out of Mobile, taking more than 2,000 passengers to Mexico on Wednesday afternoon.
Carnival has a 13-month agreement to use the Alabama Cruise Terminal as the home for the Fantasy, a ship that’s been recently renovated with new amenities.
“[It has] everything from a Guy’s Burger Joint to a new cantina, a Mexican themed restaurant, new bars,” continued Jennifer De La Cruz with Carnival Cruises. “There’s been a ton of stuff added plus the spa, the water park, tons of things to do on this ship. It’s in terrific shape.”
Thousands of passengers will descend on Mobile for the ship’s departure on Wednesday around 4:00 p.m. The ship is expected to bring an economic boost to Mobile over the next year.
