TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT)- Thursday was a great night for the future of the Alabama basketball program. The Crimson Tide picked up commits from two five-star recruits.
Collin Sexton was the first to announce. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound point guard is from Mableton, Georgia and the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2017 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Sexton was named the MVP of the FIBA U17 World Championships last summer and picked the Tide over Kansas.
The second commitment came from an in-state phenom. Guard John Petty of Mae Jemison is the reigning Mr. Basketball and picked the Tide over Kentucky.
Petty is a five-star recruit according to ESPN and a four-star according to 247Sports.
This is the first time Alabama has picked up a five-star player since 2008.
Both players have already signed their letters of intent.
