Chelsea resident reports car burglary suspect, leads to high speed chase and arrest

HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) — A high speed chase out of Shelby County ends after the suspect crashed in a Homewood neighborhood. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says it started as a car burglary on Sweet Gum Drive in Chelsea.

Around 2:45 this morning, a Chelsea resident called to report a suspect breaking into vehicles in the area. They were able to give a good description of the suspect and their vehicle.

Deputies say the homeowner chased the suspect until police caught up with him. The chase started just before 3:30 a.m. and ended in a Homewood neighborhood when the suspect crashed the car . Investigators say the car was stolen.

The Sheriff’s Office says the suspect is 21-year-old Justin Ellis Hall of Irondale. He was arrested without incident by deputies from Shelby and Jefferson County, along with officers from Homewood, Mountain Brook, Vestavia Hills and Hoover police departments. He is charged with Receiving Stolen Property 1st degree, with a bond of $90,000; Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement–a bond of $500; and Unlawful Breaking & Entering Vehicle with a bond of $15,000.
