HEFLIN, Ala. (WIAT) — The Heflin community is rallying behind a family trying to make a special Christmas for one child.
10-year-old Laura Nolen wants a bike for Christmas, but it’s a special bike to help her ride with ease. Laura’s been blind since birth. She was born at 24 weeks old, weighing one pound. Her parents call her their miracle baby because they lost two babies before Laura. Since Laura was so premature, combined with the lack of oxygen throughout her development, her retinas detached and she’s been blind since birth.
She doesn’t let it hold her back. Laura loves to ride horses and ride her tricycle. She’s going to grow out of it soon though, so her parents want to get her a special kind of bike to ride called a Buddy Bike.
A friend of the family reached out to CBS 42 to get the word out. Click here to access the GoFundMe page for Laura.
