BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The delays on the Birmingham Crossplex could cause some retailers to pull out of the deal.
“We had the same issue with the Uptown district. There were a lot of questions. There were no retailers in the area, no restaurants in the area, but once you get the first to come, then others will follow,” said Mayor William Bell.
The mayor says that the Birmingham City Council has yet to approve contracts for the Crossplex. Phase One of the construction was set to start by the end of the year.
Mayor Bell says stores like Walmart are in the running, but the council wants to ensure that they attract the right businesses that will help boost West Birmingham.
