NORTHPORT, Ala. (WIAT) — A Northport firefighter is raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Manuel Jimenez is planning to run in the St. Jude Heroes Marathon December third in Memphis, Tennessee. If you live in Northport, there is a good chance you have seen this paramedic and firefighter running along the roadside wearing his full turnout gear.
“It’s a wonderful cause ,so I just decided to do the marathon and I figured running in my firefighter gear with my air pack on would help raise money for St. Jude–to catch people’s attention so they can donate to St. Jude,” Jimenez said.
The 32 year old says this is his first marathon. Jimenez is hoping his running and wearing his 60 pounds of gear will help him physically be prepared for the 26-mile race.
“It’s been really tough but it is for a good cause and that’s what makes me keep on going and not giving up. I run in front of the fire station, I run near my house. I’m sure people have seen me run down Highway 82 or Highway 69 in my turnouts but it has been great. Many folks even honk and wave at me,” he said.
The firefighter has already raised $3,000 dollars; his goal is to raise $10,000 dollars. If you would like help Manuel Jimenez reach his goal, you visit his page at St. Jude to donate and learn more about why he is participating.
