6-year-old girl shot in back while sleeping in Bessemer home is in serious condition

BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) — A six-year-old girl was shot Friday morning on 30th Street South in Bessemer around 1:30 a.m. Neighbors say a 20-year-old was also shot.

Officers found the six-year-old girl suffering from a single gunshot wound to the back. According to the victim’s mother, her daughter was inside the home asleep when someone shot into the house. The six-year-old was conscious and taken to Children’s Hospital by ambulance in serious condition.

It is reported that the bullet went through the 20-year-old, but we have been told he is okay. The six-year-old has gotten out of surgery and is in stable condition.

Her family identified her as Alexis Talley. They showed us the couch where she was sleeping when she was shot in the back.

Officers also responded to a report of a person being shot around 11:10 p.m. at the Dartmouth Avenue Convenience Store. Officers found a black male lying on his back outside the store.

The man was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the arm. The victim said he was he was shot by a person he knows while he was inside the store. The man was taken to UAB Hospital.

Police have yet to release the identity of the male victim, but have issued warrants for the arrest of two men: Deanthony Shiquan Billingsley, 20, of Bessemer, and Cardamien Demun Braxton Cooper, 21, of Hueytown.
