Give back this season: Sponsor a Jimmie Hale Mission holiday meal for $1.95

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — As colder temperatures are starting to move into our area, it’s easier to start thinking about the fast approaching holiday season. Thanksgiving is a time of year where we reflect of what we have to be thankful for.

It’s also a time to think about others and how we can give back. That’s where the Jimmie Hale Mission come in to help the community! Tony Cooper says there are many ways you can get involved to help others on Thanksgiving.

“The best way to give thanks is to give back,” Cooper said. “Find that church or synagogue or non-profit or ministry that you support, and just do what you can. Just give. Whether it’s volunteering, whether it’s financial support, whether it’s in-kind donations… that’s the way to give back to those that are less fortunate.”

The Jimmie Hale Mission has been helping people for over 72 years.

“We have our Men’s Center, Jessie’s Place for women and children, Royal Pines as our life recovery program. We have learning centers where we do education remediation and job readiness. We have Discovery Club and Bible Clubs in public elementary schools. Then we have bargain centers, thrift stores, and Mission Possible bargain centers. So those different things markup the Jimmie Hale Mission. The way you can really enjoy your Thanksgiving, is to give thanks by giving back and getting involved and doing what you can,” said Cooper.

Cooper says that sometimes something as simple as a hot meal can be the catalyst for a life change.

“You can sponsor a holiday meal for $1.95. And the reason that’s important is because a changed life can begin with something as simple as a meal. A lot of people will come to us, not because of our long-term recovery programs or the other ministries that we offer. They come to us because they’re hungry or they’re needing a place to stay. We need people to say; ‘you know, I don’t have much, but I can sponsor a $1.95 meal.’ A meal can lead to a change life. That why that’s important.”

As you prepare for Thanksgiving, remember others in our community. Big or small, you can have a tremendous impact on a life through the Jimmie Hale Mission. You can visit for more information.
