Body found inside burned home in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – UPDATE: The victim found has been identified as 29-year-old Drew Alexander Hendrix.

ORIGINAL: Birmingham police are conducting a death investigation at a burned home where a body was discovered. Officers and firefighters responded to a house fire on the 1100 block of Cullom Street Saturday morning and found the body inside. Police have not identified the victim.

Neighbor Michael Parker lives next to the home.

“I pulled the curtain back and I see the flames, and I was panicked,” said neighbor Michael Parker.

Parker said he rushed out his house to move his SUV and his truck. Part of the house fell on another one of his cars.

“The flames where everywhere, the houses on the other side were actually being melted because of the intense heat, it was a really intense fire,” said Parker.

Fire crews arrived to fight the fire. A body was discovered in the home.

“The sad part is somebody lost their life in this incident,” said Parker.

Parker said there were some college students that had lived in the home but moved out.

“I think the last guy moved like Tuesday or something like that, that was last time they were moving,” said Parker.
