BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT/CBS News) — The FBI is releasing a new report on hate crimes in the United States, and they report that hate crimes were up almost 7% in 2015.
One of the key findings in the report was a 67% jump in crimes against Muslim-Americans. There have been several noteworthy cases of hate crimes across the country, including people finding swastikas at a baseball field and high school students shouting hate messages.
Attorney General Loretta Lynch encourages all hate crime victims to continue to speak up, and to report any cases to local police and the Justice Department.
The report on hate crimes for 2016 will be released next year.
