Birmingham police investigate late Sunday night shooting

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – According to Lieutenant Edwards with the Birmingham Police Department, officers found a victim lying at the rear of a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. When Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, they pronounced the victim deceased. There was no suspect on the scene.

The victim has been identified as Willy Brown, 41, of Birmingham.

Later, officers were notified that the suspect wanted to turn himself in. The officers went to the suspect’s location and detained him.

Detectives report that they learned the victim and the suspect were going to the same place to visit a female who was having a gathering. Words were exchanged between the two men, which resulted in the suspect shooting the victim. It is not clear if both men presented firearms before the shooting. Witnesses from the scene were reportedly not cooperating with detectives.
