VINEMONT, Ala. (WIAT) — One person has lost their life, and another is being treated at UAB Hospital after their house was burned down on Saturday Night, according to Vinemont Providence Fire Department.
When the department arrived on the scene, they were unable to properly fight the blaze due to its intensity.
“With the level of fire you couldn’t even make entry at the time,” said Chief Mike Graves with the fire department. “Two of our guys was in air packs attacking the fire, but they couldn’t even get close enough to make entry.”
After 30 minutes at the scene, the department was able to control the blaze, when they discovered a victim.
According to the victims’ family, the victim that perished in the blaze was Kim Chumley, and at this time, Keith Chumley is in UAB Hospital’s burn unit receiving skin grafts.
The coroner has still not officially confirmed the victim’s identity.
