The Blount County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect as Heath Benson Moore. He has been charged with two counts of Capital Murder.
Deputies say they received a call of two people shot at 1455 County Highway at 11:43 p.m. on Monday night. Investigators say the suspect in the shooting called them, and they told Moore to go outside and lay down on the driveway until deputies arrived.
“Gut wrenching shock is what we all feel,” said Melissa Culwell, a neighbor of the family. “Sadness, shock is the only word.”
Deputies also found a man and woman in their 70’s dead inside the house. They have been identified as the suspect’s parents.
Culwell has been a neighbor of the family for 20 years, she would often see the father outside during that time.
“Whether he was digging a flower or mowing, he would completely stop what he was doing turn around and wave as you were coming up the hill,” said Culwell.
Culwell says her and the wife had a passion for flowers, and would pick them together, which brought the two families together.
At this time, the sheriff’s office says that the motive behind the murder is unknown, and they are not releasing the victim’s names until they notify the next of kin.
