BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The Regions Bank employee named in a Facebook post captioned, “Please share..racist of the week” is “no longer with the company,” according to Regions on Wednesday.
Regions spokesperson Jeremy King told us Tuesday they were investigating after a Facebook post with screenshots of a post allegedly made by the employee went viral. Wednesday, they released this statement:
We appreciate the concerns shared about offensive social media comments that were made through an associate’s personal Facebook account. We want you to know that we share those concerns. Those comments do not reflect our values as a company or the way we do business. The associate is no longer an employee of the company.
The controversial post was composed of screenshots of a post allegedly by the employee, and the LinkedIn account that listed the associate as a senior vice-president at Regions Bank in Birmingham.
The post referenced voting for Donald Trump, and compared the president-elect and his wife to Barack and Michelle Obama. It read, in part:
“I voted him in. I like him. He has a beautiful wife unlike the ugly and embarrassing woman, (for lack of a better word), in the White House now. Ms. Trump’s foot would make Michele O’Bama [sic] a Sunday face. I’m certainly glad he has a lot of money because she he [sic] won’t be bought out like Barrack, socialist Muslim O’Bama or his wife and all those of relatives they have in the whitehouse for US to support. They have sponged the US of money flying to every single location in which they could vacation, taking the grandmother with them. I’m surprised the didn’t move the uncles and aunts in with them. Maybe they did and we didn’t hear about it. Oh yes, and let us NOT forget they flew the family dog on a SEPARATE plane. If any idiot out there thinks that behavior is justified, you deserved him as a president. I prefer a man who can buy Michele and Barrack [sic] and sell them several times over. He will NOT be taking a salary, except $1. I think we can afford security for his son, IF he decides to use it. People who sponge from free government giveaways won’t care much for this, but get over it. Hopefully being accountable will make a comeback. Nothing is free, someone pays for it. I for one am SICK of paying for lazy, non-working, takers.”
