(WIAT) — We are inching closer and closer to Iron Bowl Saturday. This year, one Alabama fan will not be able to cheer on his team. His absence is felt on the set of one of CBS’ hit shows ‘Blue Bloods.’
Richard Kerekes spent years working on the set of the show. He had a special tradition the cast would rag on him for; he would always wear a piece of Alabama gear, whether it was a shirt or a sweater, on a Friday before a game.
Richard’s family lives in Tuscaloosa and last fall he was diagnosed with cancer. He passed away and his absence was immediately felt by the cast of the show ‘Blues Bloods.’ They paid him a touching tribute by getting specially made shirts with his name on the back. They sent the pictures to the Kerekes family in Tuscaloosa.
Michael Kerekes, Richard’s son said, “He must have made a pretty good impression. Because the way he explained it, he would always wear an Alabama t-shirt the Friday before a game, and my understanding was they always kind of kidded him about it. But, then I see them wearing Alabama shirts, I’m like they must of liked him a lot if they could be convinced to do something that they all joke with him about.”
