BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A John Carroll Catholic High School teacher is being honored for his work. Michael Gadilhe is being honored for his commitment to lessons about the Holocaust.
Gadilhe will receive the Robert I. Goldman Award for Excellence in Holocaust Education during a ceremony Monday. The award is presented by the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous at the New York Public Library in Manhattan.
John Carroll Principal Charles McGrath says Gadilhe “has made it his life’s work to teach the human experience of the Holocaust.” Gadilhe has been teaching for more than 25 years.
Gadilhe was first introduced to the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous by the Birmingham Holocaust Education Center. The Center sponsored his participation in the foundation’s summer institute in 2015 and an advanced seminar earlier this year.
