(WIAT) — Monday afternoon, exhausted firefighters continue to battle brush fires across the state as their jobs are made harder by strong wind gusts across central Alabama ahead of possible severe weather this evening.

As of 2:30 p.m. Monday, the Alabama Forestry Commision says there are 20 active fires in the state. One is on the Walker County/Cullman line on Highway 127 in Bremen.

The most recent fires include one in Pinson with AFC crews headed there now, one on Bluff Creek Road in Quinton, and one at Deerfoot Pkwy and Husky Pkwy in Trussville.

Nick Lee, the man behind the Cullman County Weather Facebook page, sent CBS42 video and photos of the Bremen fire. He reports it is a large, five-alarm fire.
