Man arrested in Hoover counterfeit money case

HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: A man wanted for using 5 counterfeit $100 bills at the Walmart on Highway 280. Detectives received several tips from the public which identified Demaraaron Cordarriucs Johnson, 23, as the suspect in this case. Hoover Police obtained arrest warrants through the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office earlier this month. Johnson was taken into custody Monday in Birmingham.

He’s been charged with Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 1st degree. He is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail with a $10,000 bond.

Johnson is also suspected in several other forgery cases throughout the Birmingham metro area.

ORIGINAL: Hoover Police are looking for a man wanted for passing counterfeit $100 bills. Police say he spent $500 in counterfeit money at the Walmart on Highway 280.

The suspect left the store in a red Chevrolet Camaro with a black racing stripe down the middle. This same man allegedly tried to use fake bills at the Galleria in October.
