AUBURN, Ala. – (WIAT) The Piedmont Bulldogs flexed their 3A muscles yet again Thursday, beating Mobile Christian 22-12 at Jordan-Hare Stadium to claim their second straight state championship.
Quarterback Taylor Hayes was named the MVP, carrying the ball 38 times for 239 yards and scoring all three Piedmont touchdowns.
”I’m just so proud of the ten other seniors,” Hates said. “I’ll be the 11th but I’ll do anything for those guys no matter what it took and I’m just glad we could be here and do this.”
The Bulldogs racked up 373 yards rushing and ran 62 plays to Mobile Christian’s 47.
The victory was the 25th in a row for Piedmont, the longest current football winning streak in the AHSAA.
Piedmont becomes just the third Class 3A school in AHSAA history to win three Super 7 state titles (2009, 2015, 2016). Madison Academy and Pike County are the other two.
