BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — We are one week away from opening night for George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker, put on by Alabama Ballet. If you are trying to buy tickets, we have an important warning for you.
When you Google ‘Alabama Ballet Nutcracker Tickets,’ the first results are advertisements that take you to third-party vendors. The tickets are listed for at least $245. If you were to go directly to Alabama Ballet’s box office, the tickets range from $30 to around $60.
What the third-party sites are doing may be perfectly legal, but Alabama Ballet leaders want to get the word out that those overcharges are not benefiting the non-profit ballet company. There are still plenty of reasonable priced tickets available at the box office.
Marketing Director Mandy McDaniel said, “We have really low ticket prices because one of the main things we do is try to expose communities to dance. We have large community casts. In George Balanchine’s ‘The Nutcracker,’ we have 114 members from the community, which are children who get to be exposed to this tradition.”
Alabama Ballet is one of only eight companies in the world that is licensed to perform this production of ‘The Nutcracker.’
